SMART ANALYSIS: Bringing the Lab Where It's Needed—From Quality Control to Classroom Teaching

The company develops proprietary technologies to make chemical analysis simpler, more accessible, and closely aligned with end-user needs. Its SMART ANALYSIS platform integrates portable spectrophotometry and digital tools to support testing and quality control across agri-food sectors, laboratory environments, and technical education.

Session Overview

Can professional analytical instrumentation become simple, portable, and accessible without compromising scientific reliability? This core question led to the creation of SMART ANALYSIS, the chemical analysis platform developed by DNAPhone.

In this talk, Alessandro Candiani, CEO of DNAPhone, presents how combining a portable spectrophotometer, mobile app, computational software, and dedicated cloud services streamlines the analytical workflow—from initial measurement to final result. Drawing on practical applications—from enzymatic assays for agri-food quality control to color measurement in the CIELab color space—he will demonstrate how guided procedures and automated calculations make complex analyses accessible while maintaining rigorous methodology.

The presentation will also explore environmental applications and laboratory best practices, covering sample preparation, correct execution of measurements, and data interpretation.

Special focus will be given to transitioning from professional applications to educational settings through SMART ANALYSIS Educational and the hands-on experience at the ITS Tech&Food Academy, framed within Next Generation EU projects aimed at innovating training labs. Color analysis will serve as a practical example connecting theory to practice: moving from spectrophotometric measurements to CIELab coordinate calculations, sample comparison, and color difference evaluation.

This session offers a concrete example of how a single technology can meet the needs of both industry laboratories and modern education, equipping students with tools and methods directly matching those used in commercial enterprises.
